How to use the app
Getting around
- Designs — design images and stencils to follow, templates, and your saved designs.
- Learn — guided tracing lessons and a daily drill.
- Create — design on a hand, foot, arm or finger.
- Studio — aftercare timer, look-book, backup, language and help.
Build a design
- Drag a motif up from the palette and drop it exactly where you want it on the hand. On a wide tablet, press and hold a motif, then drag it across.
- Or tap a motif to add it near the centre.
- Drag a motif to move it. Pinch with two fingers to resize and rotate.
- Tap a motif to select it, then use the bar below the canvas to rotate, resize, flip, duplicate, bring to front or delete.
- To delete quickly, drag a motif below the canvas onto the red strip and let go.
- Undo and redo are at the top left of the tools.
- Hold a motif (or tap the stacked-squares button) to select several, then move, resize, turn or duplicate them together.
- Tap the padlock to lock a finished motif so it can't move by accident.
- To zoom, tap empty space, then pinch with two fingers and drag to look around. The + and − buttons in the corner zoom too.
- The Recent tab in the palette keeps the motifs you used last.
- Your work is saved as you go. If the app closes, you can restore it next time.
Choose the canvas
- Tap the body button to switch between palm, back of hand, foot, forearm and finger.
- Switch between right and left — your design mirrors so it still fits.
Draw and repeat
- Pen — draw freehand lines in fine, medium or bold. Tap for a dot.
- Brush — pick a motif in the palette, then draw a line to lay copies along it. Use the slider to set their size.
- Symmetry — turn on Mirror or Radial (4, 6, 8 or 12 copies). Everything you add or draw is repeated around the gold centre marker, which you can drag.
Names and initials
- Tap the text button to add henna lettering in English letters.
- Choose Hidden to weave the letters into a lattice of dots — perfect for hiding the groom's name.
Preview and try on
- Tap the eye to preview the stain: wet paste, fresh, after 48 hours or jagua, on four skin tones.
- Tap the camera to try the design on a photo of your hand. Drag, pinch and rotate it into place, then share the picture. Photos never leave your phone.
Save, print and share
- Tap Save to keep your design in My Designs.
- Tap Export to print a true-size stencil. Choose small, medium or large, then check the 100 mm ruler on the page and print at 100% scale.
- Using transfer paper? Turn on Mirror so the design is the right way round on the skin.
- Share PDF sends the stencil, Share picture sends a picture, and Cutting file creates an SVG for Cricut or vinyl stencils.
- Choose A4 or US Letter to print several copies on one sheet, or turn on “Left and right together” to print both hands at once.
- Share a square post or a story picture, add your name, or save it straight to Photos.
Templates
- Designs opens on Images: colourful mehndi to follow. Filter by style or by hands, arms and feet, then tap one to zoom in, mirror it or swipe to the next.
- Templates come first in Designs > Templates, followed by view-only stencils. A stencil opens full screen to follow; it can't be edited.
- Open Designs > Templates to browse bridal, Arabic, minimal, Eid, Diwali and Karwa Chauth designs.
- Search, filter by occasion and tap the heart to save favourites.
- Tap a template to open it in Create and make it your own.
- Long-press one of your designs (or tap ⋯) to rename, duplicate, make a matching left or right side, or delete.
- In My Designs, search, sort by newest or A–Z, and put designs in folders for each client or event. Long-press a folder to rename it.
- The long-press menu can also share a picture or print a stencil without opening the design.
Learn and practise
- Each lesson step first draws itself — watch, then trace over the guide. Tap ▶ to watch again.
- When you finish, you get a tracing score and up to three stars.
- Do the daily drill to build your streak, and follow your progress on the chart.
- Print practice sheets to practise with a real cone on paper or a plastic sleeve.
Aftercare timer
- In Studio, choose how long the paste stays on and start the timer.
- You get reminders to remove the paste, when it is safe to wash (after 24 hours) and when the colour peaks (around 48 hours).
Look-book, backup and language
- Look-book — add your artist details and create a portfolio PDF of your designs for clients.
- Backup — save everything to a file and restore it on a new phone.
- Language — the app follows your phone's language; you can also pick one in Studio.
Tips for great henna
- Practise a little every day — ten minutes of drills makes lines smooth and confident.
- Use only natural henna, never "black henna", and do a patch test first.
- Keep the paste on for 4–12 hours and avoid water for the first day for the darkest stain.
